The first 1,000 days – a critical window shaping growth, immunity, and brain development
The first 1,000 days of life – from conception to a child’s second birthday are widely recognized by experts as a once-in-a-lifetime “golden window” for development. This period marks the most rapid growth in height, weight, brain structure, and immune function, while the body is highly responsive to nutrition, environmental conditions, and caregiving practices.
Right after birth, children enter a phase of dramatic physical growth. In the first year alone, a child’s height can increase by approximately 25 cm. In the following years, average height gain remains around 10 cm annually. Weight also rises sharply, doubling within the first 4–6 months and tripling by the end of the first year. From ages 2 to 10, body weight typically increases by around 2.4 kg each year. According to pediatric specialists, this period determines up to 60% of a child’s maximum height potential. Each developmental milestone plays a crucial role, influencing physical stature and long-term health.
At the same time, brain development accelerates significantly. Within the first two years, a child’s brain can reach up to 80% of adult size, laying the foundation for cognitive skills, memory, language acquisition, and reasoning. Children who receive optimal nutrition and nurturing environments during this phase generally demonstrate greater learning capacity and intellectual performance later in life.
Beyond physical and cognitive growth, the immune system undergoes two major transitions during the first 1,000 days:
1. Shifting from passive to active immunity
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, infants benefit from maternal antibodies (IgG, IgA), forming a temporary shield against infections. After six months, however, these protective antibodies gradually decline while the child’s own immune system is still developing. As children interact more with their surroundings, their immune defense is not yet mature enough to recognize and respond effectively to pathogens. This is why young children are particularly susceptible to common illnesses such as colds, coughs, fever, sore throat, and digestive infections…
2. Transitioning from exclusive breastfeeding to solid foods
Around the sixth month, infants begin complementary feeding while still relying partly on breast milk. However, their digestive system remains fragile, the intestinal lining is thin, and the gut microbiome is not yet stable. If complementary feeding is not well-balanced or hygiene is inadequate, children may experience digestive disturbances, nutrient malabsorption, and weakened mucosal immunity. This directly affects growth, increases susceptibility to infections, and heightens the risk of micronutrient deficiencies.

This double transition creates a “temporary immune gap”, making children susceptible to minor illnesses. Each time they get sick, the body must prioritize energy to fight the disease and recover, leading to loss of appetite, poor absorption, and loss of micronutrients. If this situation repeats, children fall into a negative cycle. If not intervened early, children easily miss the golden opportunity for comprehensive development, which will have long-term effects on height, weight, and brain.
Postbiotic Lactococcus Lactis Plasma – a proactive immune-strengthening solution
To better support the immature immune system during the first 1,000 days of life, modern nutritional science has successfully introduced a breakthrough: Postbiotic Lactococcus Lactis Plasma.
Postbiotic Lactococcus Lactis Plasma is considered a new milestone in medical nutrition thanks to its ability to interact with the immune system in a direct and highly effective manner. It is the final bioactive product obtained after the fermentation of beneficial bacteria. Because these compounds are already “activated,” they are more stable, easier for the body to utilize, and can act quickly on immune cells.

Inside the small intestine are specialized immune structures known as Peyer’s patches – the central hubs of immune activity, housing a high concentration of immune cells, including plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), often described as the “commanders” of the immune system. When Postbiotic L. Lactis Plasma reaches the small intestine, it stimulates pDCs directly. From there, these cells trigger a cascade that activates other immune cells and promotes the production of interferons, key signaling proteins that help the body fight viruses and bacteria.
Scientific studies have shown that Postbiotic L. Lactis Plasma helps reduce the frequency of common infections in children, such as colds, fever, cough, and diarrhea, while also shortening recovery time. It contributes to stabilizing the gut microbiota and intestinal mucosa, helping prevent inflammation and protecting growth potential. Most notably, by targeting pDCs – the “leaders” of immune defense, it helps reinforce comprehensive immune readiness in young children.
Strong immunity, better weight gain, and height growth with Metacare
With deep understanding of children’s nutritional needs and by applying advanced scientific achievements, Nutricare has partnered with the Nutricare Medical Nutrition Institute – USA (NMNI-USA) to research and develop Metacare ready-to-drink nutrition, a complete nutritional solution that helps strengthen immunity, improve weight gain, and support optimal height development.
A daily intake of three packs of Metacare ready-to-drink formula delivers 15 billion Postbiotic L. Lactis Plasma to help activate the immune system right where it matters most – the small intestine, where the majority of immune cells reside. As a result, a child’s body can respond more rapidly to viruses and bacteria, helping reduce the likelihood of frequent infections and common childhood illnesses. In addition, Metacare contains imported colostrum from the United States, rich in IgG antibodies, to reinforce natural immunity and provide an additional layer of protection during infancy and early childhood.

Beyond immunity, Metacare provides balanced nutrition to support healthy growth. The product adds B-group vitamins, which play a direct role in converting nutrients into energy, supporting daily activity, learning ability, and natural appetite.
Meanwhile, protein, zinc, and lysine contribute to protein synthesis, help build and maintain lean body mass, enhance taste perception, and support healthy weight gain, reducing prolonged picky eating.
Notably, the calcium in Metacare meets 100% of the daily intake recommended by WHO when a child consumes three 180 ml packs per day, helping build strong bones and teeth. Combined with Vitamin D3 to optimize calcium absorption, Metacare supports bone mineralization and height development during critical growth phases.
Metacare represents a proactive nutritional solution for young children in the golden early years of life. With advanced Postbiotic technology and a formula tailored to the needs of Vietnamese children, Metacare helps parents feel confident as they nurture their child’s healthy growth from the very beginning.
